Hi Everyone, and welcome to this months posting from the AIP team to ensure you always know what we are working on, whats in the current releases of AIP, and any other information that we can include to help you stay current.

With that, I will hand over to Adam Hall who leads our Customer and Partner Experience team.

Dan.

Hello again to our AIP community! If you missed it, you can find last months posting here and of course were listening to your feedback and feature requests. Speaking of which, its been a busy month with updates for admins and end users, so lets take a look.

For Admins:

  • We have now completed the move to https://portal.azure.com so you can complete all administrative actions in one place.
  • A new option available in Preview is the ability to activate and deactivate the protection service (previously known as Azure RMS) using the RMS Settings menu in the AIP portal.
  • We have a new Default policy for tenants with the protection service pre-activated. If the protection service was activated on your tenant prior to enabling the AIP service, we will create a different default policy.
    • We enable protection for the ConfidentialAll Employees and Highly ConfidentialAll Employees sublabels
    • We create an additional sublabel for Recipients Only under Confidential and Highly Confidential labels mapped to the Do Not Forward (DNF) action. More details are published in documentation here.

Client:

We posted TWO new Preview clients this month. The latest Preview client now posted is 1.10.52.0 which has a great set of new features wed love to get your feedback and experiences on:

  • A new vertical menu to apply labels to documents and email by clicking the blue Protect button in the main ribbon. This menu also reflects the current label of this document or email.
  • Admins can now allow users to hide the Information Protection bar (by unchecking Protect show bar). Label recommendations and automatic PolicyTips will continue to be displayed, even if the bar is hidden.
  • Localization is enabled for multilingual users. The AIP client will display the label name, label description, and policy tips in the users language they set in Windows and Office. To configure, go to the https://portal.azure.com AIP portal and click on Manage –> Languages.
  • The PowerShell cmdlets can now classify, label and protect files in SharePoint Server (2010/2013/2016) locations in addition to CIFS based files shares.
  • A new PowerShell cmdlet parameter, -owner (email address) enables file labeling and protection on behalf of another user.
  • A new PowerShell cmdlet parameter, -preserveFileDetails enables labeling and protecting a file without changing the last modified date (on File Shares and SharePoint) and last modified user (on SharePoint only).
  • Bug fixes and stability improvements (always!).
  • A “user picker” button when setting custom permissions in Word/Excel/PowerPoint (protect custom permission).
  • Added reset settings button in the Help and Feedback menu which will reset the configuration of the client.

Mobile Apps:

  • iOS: Support for Cert based authentication (CBA) (already supported for Android)
  • Android: Support for viewing TIF/PTIF files (already supported for iOS)
  • iOS/Android: Support for device compliance policy being set by Intune admin

These updates were heavily influenced by your great feedback, and allowed us to ship new features, verify bug fixes and generally improved our product. We thank you for this ongoing engagement!

Upcoming milestones:

  • You can download and test with a new Preview client (1.10.52.0) at https://aka.ms/aipclient
  • Our next GA level client is planned to be released towards the end of September 2017. You can download and deploy the current GA client (1.7.210.0) at https://aka.ms/aipclient.

As we let you know last month, we have adopted UserVoice as a platform for you to tell us what we should be working on, and I would ask and encourage you all to take a look and place your votes to help us understand the priorities you have.

Summary

Hopefully this helps you with your testing, planning and deployments, we welcome your commentary and feedback. We also know this can be a lot to absorb, and we are here to help! Engage with us on Yammer or Twitter and let us know whats important to you by voting on UserVoice!

It really is very easy to get started with AIP. We have a lot of information available to help you, from great documentation to engaging with us via Yammer and e-mail. What are you waiting for? Get to it!
